Diagnosis of Dry Eyes
A complete eye exam including a detailed history and careful slit lamp exam with Dr. Duffey to examine your vision, eyelids, lashes, conjunctiva, cornea and tear film is the best starting point.
Schirmers tear strips can objectively measure your tear output and a measure of tear break-up time (T-BUT) can assess quality of the patient’s tear film. For severe, sight-threatening chronic dry eyes, Dr. Duffey will occasionally seek a consultation with a Rheumatologist for his patients for both diagnostic and treatment help. Other more advanced helpful tests can be performed by Dr. Duffey including Sjogren's Antibody testing and tear osmolarity.
